My Experience During Mock Trial
During class today my team underwent a mock trial in which we had to argue for the state in how they have already made the right choice. The case we had studied was State V. Mann which although was a low key case back then really made for some good arguments between both teams. The preparation for the case was a big learning experience in my opinion for the whole team because we were able to create arguments based in the 1800s with limited resources seeing as this case was so small.
The day of the case showed a lot of skills that we were able to practice throughout preparation. Our side of the case defending the slave was able to show many arguments that could have been brought up throughout the actual case in the 1800s such as comparing slaves to livestock, the three-fifths law, and economic endurances. Although slaves were not treated like people back then there were still reasons that could see them as humans and should be given birth rights as well as well as not be treated the same as a chair. Being property gives the slave no recognition in any type of law or court whether a case can come up or not. All in all I am really happy with the experience during class and will be able to take many study prep and group work skills from it.

Banks Blocking Out Minorities and Their Rights Through Redlining
Recently I have come across an article that talked about how the Attorney General in New York is now suing Evans Bank due to racial discrimination on the bank’s rights. Evans Bank has been denying more loans and accounts to people in the east side section of Buffalo more than any other bank by what is known as “substantial margins.” The president of Evans Bank, David Nasca, although denying an opportunity at an interview, a statement had been released stating how Evans Bank has not done anything wrong and has complied at all times with the comptroller of currency. The east side of Buffalo is home to more minorities of african american culture and crime rates are higher in this area. This leads many to believe that Evans does not want business going through to that section of the city because it would lead to a downfall in profits. Unfortunately for Evans Bank the study shows that it was not delegated to the east side and rather it has affected many impoverished areas of Buffalo. This is more alarming because it shows how this does not have as much to do based on region but more based on race and not actual socioeconomic factors. The Attorney General is also taking this further by investigating all banks in the region and not solely focusing on Evans Bank alone. http://www.wgrz.com/story/money/2014/09/02/evans-bank-sued-racial-discrimination/14986133/
